Calendar Project
May 7th, 2007
So I’ve decided to start a new pet project since SimplePhoto is just a matter of bug fixes at this point. My next project is a calendar organizer to help me keep track of long term goals and other things that happen over a period of time. I do not intend it to be a daily organizer because there are already a lot of tools out there to that although I think adding that functionality wouldn’t be too difficult. What I envision is a way to be able to view a year’s calendar and be able to filter certain labels to have a visual view of certain goals.
For example, if I wanted to monitor my weight (I don’t, but just as an example) I could create a new label for weight and input my weight everyday. I could then view a calendar which will display darker colors for higher weight days and lighter for lower weight days. The same thing can be done for finances, time it takes me to run a mile, or any other quantitative data that can be measured on a regular basis.
Well, that’s great for quantitative data but what about other goals that aren’t easily measured? Well, I also figured I could allow labels to have files attached to them. For example, to keep track of my progress playing saxophone, I could create a label for it and upload a recording every week. This could also work for those “picture a day” things that have been going on recently.
Finally, this tool will allow me to put goals down for certain dates (under a label of course) and then I can visualize the goal at hand with landmarks.
Right now, it’s just an idea that’s out there and I may tinker around with it a little soon. If anybody reads my blog and has any suggestions, let me know!
Update: you can see any progress I made at the test site. Don’t screw things up too much
